2009 Ford Fiesta – Looks fast as a spear!
How unforgettable was the Fiesta review on Top Gear!
Standing alone I would have said the 2009 Ford Fiesta is quite a desirable car. It has fast and punchy good looks, from a neat looking front end and proportions that make it look properly balanced.
All the latest designs coming out of Ford in the current year have been quite impressive. I can’t put my finger on exactly when they started taking a strong step in a positive direction, but my memory is telling me it was around when the Iosis concept influences started coming though to production.
This Ford has a very harmonious stylistic design. From what I can see as the main gesture of the Fiesta is its sharp forward directional motion. It can be seen from all the lines that speed down to the front of the car, even the DLO points the same way.
Feature lines that are struck along the body side are bold and powerful. It reminds me of a similar strength in line seen on a BMW 3 series (I’m not saying it’s a copy, only that there is a similar bold strength to it – calm down!) Equally as strong as the belt line, the light catcher along the lower body side matches up and leads the eye through the wheels and to the front of the car.
One of my favorite design features of this Fiesta is its head lamps that look like actual spear heads! Talk about line gestures and features that insinuate notions of speed and accuracy!
Wrapping the tail of the Fiesta are features that have taken cues from the rest of the design, from similarly themed reflector shapes and lines that connect the belt lines together. The sharpness in this line fits in so well with the drama created by the lines on the body side, but at the same time from some angles (and this is just being picky), it makes the upper of the rear seem a little ‘heavy’. Perhaps stronger light catchers on the lower rear fascia could have offset this minor result.
I must admit, I do enjoy looking at this Fiesta. If there was one main thing I would change it would be how the front end around the top grille just doesn’t seem as sharp as it needs to be. Evidence of this need can be seen on some of the sketches for this car. Perhaps there were proposals with a sharper front end, but maybe our friends in design engineering (and pedestrian protection) have rightly guided it to a result that is rounder.
This is a car that is just plain good looking! I am excited to see what else is coming out of Ford, but perhaps more so for the competitors of the Fiesta. For sure this will be a good seller!
This would be a really really cool mother car! (perhaps too cool!)

Hey!
For some reason I JUST now saw the link you posted on my site to this fantastic review. From my admin panel the link was invisible and I just happened to be viewing my own site the traditional way and saw your post- and I am glad I did! I love the work you did discussing the lines- very well done.
Keep it up!
